Millions of people live in the townships surrounding Cape Town, South Africa. For most children, their homes are small, the electricity and water doesn’t work all of the time, and their parents may not have a steady job. There is often gang violence in the streets, so the children have learned to be afraid as much as they have learned what it is like to be loved.
But God is at work in Cape Town townships! Missionaries Bonnie, Bruce, Sheri, Sarah and Michal work in six township schools each week. They tutor the children in their schoolwork and they teach them about Jesus during Bible study time. Now the children call those Bible studies their church.
More than 90 children accepted Jesus as Savior during 2011! Please pray for these children that they will grow in their knowledge of God. Ask God to help them show His love to others in the township. Thank God for the missionaries who are faithful to go and to teach these children that His perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18).

I feel a calling to ministry and leadership, but I’ve never viewed myself as a leader. Please pray that God would be evident in me and that He will guide me. College is a big deal right now. Please pray that I would figure out what I want and that it would be a God-given decision. Also, my brother is going into high school this year and he struggles with school work a lot. Please pray that he would get the help he needs and learn to enjoy his work. My mom got a new teaching job to help kids with learning disabilities at an international school. She’s excited, but please pray that her stress level would stay manageable. SHALYN, age 16 (European peoples)
